Planning a new kitchen is exciting, there’s no doubt about it. It can also be stressful with all the decisions and choices that need to be made. That’s why we’re helping out with this handy kitchen remodel checklist that can at least give you an idea of the process you’ll be going through with your remodeling company. That way you can be prepared and ready to move ahead.
Hold a First Meeting
At Schroeder Design/Build, you’ll speak with one of our project managers (or an owner) in a free discovery consultation to discuss what you have in mind for your kitchen remodel. You’ll talk about:
- Your timeline
- Your budget
- Your goals
Create an Idea Board
When you decide to move forward (which we’re sure you will!), we’ll ask you to start gathering ideas—if you haven’t begun doing so already. Take time to go through online sites like Pinterest to gather into an idea board photos of kitchens you like and smaller elements you’d like to include in your kitchen. This will give us a visual idea of what you like or don’t like and will help our designers lead you toward the right design choices.
Schedule a Site Visit
We’ll want to come visit your home to see and measure your space in order to start the design process. We’ll also bring in several trades who can give us pricing estimates on the work they need to do. These can be people like tile specialists or an electrician, depending upon your needs.
Determine a Budget. What’s Included in your Kitchen Remodel Costs?
When giving you a cost estimate on your kitchen remodel, we will take into account the following items, and give you a budget allowance in which you can make your selections. That budget doesn’t limit you. If you wish to choose specialty items outside this allowance, you are free to do so, but realize that you will be responsible for any extra costs above the allowance.Items taken into consideration for kitchen remodel costs include:
- Cabinets
- Countertops
- Sink
- Faucet/fixtures
- Knobs/pulls
- Flooring
- Paint
- Appliances
- Labor
- Accessories
- Extras
Choose a Kitchen Design
As a true design/build remodeling company, Schroeder has its own architectural designer on staff, and once you sign your design agreement to have us create the design, we’ll take your ideas into mind and provide you with several custom design options. You can choose one of the designs at this point, or make modifications as needed until we get to a final design.

Make Your Selections
Our designers will walk you through the selection process, showing you samples of the various items you need to choose for your kitchen remodel checklist and recording your choices. We have many brands and samples in our Inspiration Studio so you can see and touch items as you choose.
Among the items you need to select are:
- Cabinets: color, style, supplier
- Walls: paint color, backsplash, supplier
- Countertops: type, supplier
- Flooring: type, supplier
- Fixtures: sink, faucet, knobs/pulls
- Appliances: supplier, color, style
- Accessories
- Extras
Sign a Construction Agreement
To begin actual construction, we will ask you sign a construction agreement. This will include all the decisions you’ve made so far, cost estimates and timelines, and will give us the go-ahead to get started on the actual construction portion of your project.
Your job will be entered into our client access portal called Co-Construct and updates to your project, photographs and correspondences will be posted regularly. Our clients love the fact that they can see the progress taking place and keep in contact.
All said and done, you can be enjoying your new kitchen in just a couple of months.
